Dr. Pedro Páez is Superintendent for Market Power Control of the Government of Ecuador. He previously served as Deputy Minister of Finance, Minister for the Coordination of Economic Policy, President of the Ecuadorian Technical Commission for the New Regional Financial Architecture, and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Republic of Ecuador in the Government Special Mission for the New Financial International Architecture. He also served as a member of the Commission of United Nations Experts on the Global Financial Crisis, chaired by Joseph Stiglitz and the Paris Group convened by the UN Presidency of the G20 in 2011. His writings deal with the global economy and Latin American and social issues. In 2008 he was awarded the merit of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Chile, the Republic of Chile.

In this interview conducted on 29 July 2016 at Lingnan University, Hong Kong, during the Third South South Forum on Sustainability co-organized by the Lingnan University Department of Cultural Studies, Lingnan Gardeners, and Global University for Sustainability, Dr. Pedro Páez recounted his life experiences to Dr. Lau Kin Chi.
