John Foran is Professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and teaches courses on climate change and climate justice, activism and movements for radical social change, and issues of development and globalization beyond capitalism. He is the author of Fragile Resistance: Social Transformation in Iran from 1500 to the Revolution (1993) and Taking Power: On the Origins of Revolutions in the Third World (2005). He is a scholar-activist in the global climate justice movement, the center of the struggle for achieving social justice and radical social change in the 21st century. He is an active member of Transition US, Democratic Socialists of America, System Change Not Climate Change, the Green Party of California, and Symbiosis Revolution.
