Shaji Thomas is natural of India, living in Brazil since 1990. He hold diploma in Bachelor of Arts (sociology, economy, and political Science) from Mysore University India (1988), philosophy from Institute of Philosophy and College studies Mysore, India (1988) and law from University Estacio/FAP, Belem, Brazil (2013). He obtained Masters in Environment and Urban Development from the University of Amazon (2010 and Phd in Social Science/ Sustainable Development (interdisciplinary) from Federal University of Brazil/ Centre for Amazon Higher Studies Belem, Brazil, and with the experience of sandwich doctorate in Centre for Documentation and Latin American Studies (CEDLA), Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2013).  From 2014 onwards, he is part of the research team of Federal University of Para, Brazil and he do extensive research on subjects related to the effects of climate change in Latin America, developing policies and actions which are oriented to urban and rural resilience and sustainable development. Since 2013, he also works as a lawyer and legal consultant in environmental and social issues for traditional communities in the Amazon region of Brazil and for other Non-governmental Organizations. He has published books and articles on governance of natural resources in Amazon and climate change issues.
