Dr. Mira Shiva, Director, Initiative for Health Equity & Society, and Advisory Council Member, People’s Health Movement, India

Dr. Mira Shiva is a trained Public Health Physician with Post Graduation in Medicine. She has dedicated over four decades to advancing comprehensive primary health care, gender justice, and social and health equity. She played a significant role in relief efforts and health impact studies following the Bhopal Gas tragedy. Dr. Shiva’s extensive expertise encompasses, women and child health including Reproductive Health, food and nutrition security, environmental health, and the use of law for public health addressing Determinants of Health. She is a founder member of the People’s Health Movement Global and Health Action International (Asia Pacific) of which she was former Chairperson. She has been part of SWAN from the beginning. She has held key positions in various health committees and alliances, advocating for consumer safety, Health and human rights, Women’s Health & Gender Justice. Dr. Shiva’s contributions extend to initiatives addressing Rational Use of Drugs, Rational Drug Policy, Prevention of misuse of Medicines & Medical Technologies, Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) and food safety and Biosafety regulations, demonstrating her commitment to public health and social justice.
