Biography:

Takeshi Shiratori is a founder/advocate for a new neologism, Geosymbiosis (Chikyuukyousei in Japanese) where the existing term is given a new meaning “the attitude/strive/state of harmonic coexistence of all living forms on Earth,” and he is in continuous search for the based tangible and intangible design, the Geosymbiotic Design.  The very question, “how can we innovatively design/redesign our world for Geosymbiosis?” brought him to investigate in all the inhibiting issues regardless of disciplines. He is an associate professor and hosts Geosymbiosis and Design lab at Setsunan University, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Living and Environmental Design Department, Osaka, Japan.

Initial background as an architectural designer/engineer and investigation in different countries, lead him to design innovative sustainable timber joint system that allows use of underutilized low-grade timber around the world.  After the Nuclear power plant disaster in Fukushima, with his partner Vesna Shiratori, created the Geowander Education system to nurture Geosymbiotic youths from Preschool to Higher educations while they “wander” in the world of interest freely.  He is continuously accumulating the findings from his Geosymbiotic workshops and design projects that bring opportunity for collaboration with the diverse locals to bring design solutions for coexistence.
