Prof. Dr. Marcos Arruda – economist and educator
President of the PACS Institute (Alternative Policies for the Southern Cone of Latin America), Rio de Janeiro and active collaborator of networks – Jubilee South, Brazilian Forum on Solidarity Economy, Brazil Network on Environmental Justice – Forum on Climate Change and Social Justice, Global Ecovillage Network, Dialogues in Humanity.
Associate of TNI (the Transnational Institute).

At Pacs, I work as researcher, consultant, educator and writer. I am especially involved with work on innovative policies and practices. The focuses are Solidarity Economy, Ecovillages and Transition Towns, all which conceived as means for the strategic, dynamic goal – human and social development. I also continue to work on the critique of globalization, debt and global-national financial architecture, the social-ecological looming crisis and alternatives.

I teach socioeconomic development at the International Peace University (Unipaz) and the Gaia Education Program.
I am involved in a multinational project led by SPERI, Vietnam, focusing innovative development indicators, doing case studies on Sovereign Livelihood and other native peoples’ rights, and creating bridges among indigenous peoples’ villages in eight countries – Vietnam, Laos, Bhutan, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Bolivia, Brazil and Colombia. I will participate in Bhutan’s international Conference on the GNH – Gross National Happiness index, November 2015.
My main involvement during the Tunis World Social Forum were the two workshops on strategies for a planetary citizenship movement. In July 2015 I participated in the Global Summit on Climate and Territory, and in the International Meeting of the Dialogues in Humanity Network, both in Lyon, France.
